The march, 'South West Spirit' was written at the request of Bandmaster John Collinson for the South Barwon Band (Victoria, Australia) of The Salvation Army, on the occasion of the band's 90th Anniversary celebrated in October 2013.

The main tune featured is I'll be His disciple today, a chorus that has been popular at the corps over the years. Frank Barker, who at the time was the Corps Sergeant Major, wrote it in 1979. He is a son of Susie Barker, who would be known to some as the writer of At Thy feet I bow adoring. Another tune utilised is Stand up and shout if you love my Jesus, which was a popular chorus from the days at Geelong West.
